X-TEX-Z-200

This embedded fabric is designed to remove dissolved metals and some nutrients in wastewater. The fabric removes oils and sediments, keeping the cationic exchange material free to remove dissolved metals. The two layers of X-TEX-B12 are embedded with 200 grams of selective zeolite per square yard. Rolls are 52 inches by 200 feet, (96.5 sq. yd.), and approximately 185 pounds.

X-TEX-Z-200 Metals Test

The Xextex Corporation has developed a hybrid filtration textile, designed to remove oils through adsorption and remove certain dissolved metals and nutrients by cation-exchange. This innovative fabric can be cut, formed, and molded to fit any water or storm water filtration application or device. It is the ideal fabric to ensure compliance with the new storm water regulations. This new filtration textile is X-TEX-Z-200.

Crystal structureX-TEX-Z-200 incorporates a selective zeolite embedded between two 12 ounce layers of X-TEX fabric. One of the main problems of using ion exchange materials for removing metals and nutrients is the premature failure caused by oil contamination of the material. By embedding zeolite between X-TEX layers we have resolved the problem of oil contamination by trapping the oil before the influent makes contact with the zeolite.

There are many types of zeolites (clinoptilolite, chabazite, phillipsite, mordenite, etc.) with different chemical and physical characteristics. Crystal structure and chemical composition account for much of the differences. Particle size and density, cation selectivity, and pore size are only some of the characteristics that can differ depending on the zeolite in question. Variations not only occur between different types of zeolites but also in the properties of zeolites of the same group.

Through extensive research and consultation with contracted scientists, The Xextex Corporation has developed a proprietary blend that removes targeted contaminates. How well does X-TEX-Z-200 work? Tests performed demonstrate the following removal efficiencies:

Zinc 69%
Lead 96%
Copper 76%
Cadmium 75%

TEST - A test solution was made up using the above-mentioned metals to a concentration of approximately 10 ppm. Three layers of the X-TEX-Z-200 were cut out and placed one at a time inside a funnel. After each layer was placed in the funnel, one liter of the test solution was poured through the X-TEX-Z-200. The solution flowed without restriction consecutively through the 3 combined layers of X-TEX-Z-200.

X-TEX-Z-200 is available through UltraTech International at: www.spillcontainment.com

The table below summarizes the results of this test. The sample layer named “raw” was the actual concentrations of metals in the test solution.

Removal of Metals with X-TEX-Z-200
Removal ZN* PB* CU* CD*
RAW 9.5 8.9 9.3 13.2
L1 5.8 2.5 5.2 9.3
L2   4.5 1.5  3.9  6.5
L3     2.9 0.4 2.2 3.3

*ppm

The removal rate for each layer is summarized below:

Percent Removal by Layer

Removal     ZN PB CU CD
L1     39% 72% 44% 30%
L2     53% 83% 58% 51%
L3     69% 96% 76% 75%

The results from this test indicate that X-TEX-Z-200 can substantially remove soluble metals from storm water and help bring users into compliance with their storm water regulation. Variation of X-TEX-Z-200 will be tested in the near future to improve the efficiency for removal of metals and nutrients. The graph below also illustrates the efficiency of X-TEX-Z-200 for removal of metals in water.
